Best insecticide

I grew up in a Romanian grand pa's farm. All crops were fertilized with natural fertilizer. We composted everything in the ranch from clippings in the kitchen to wheat straws, manure from the barns to leaves and other leftover's. All what was biodegradable was composted. As insecticides grandpa burned at the end of the year the leftover in the fields. That smoking and the ashes were the best insecticide. During the 40's till the "socialist agriculture started when all started being fertilized with chemicals and consequently this method killed all the bees / grandpa had over 100 beehives/ therefore all agriculture fruits and vegetables were indirectly damaged " In those days all food was tasty and healthy, not so many cancer patients of any age, mainly kids either.
