Lessons of economic collapse of Yugoslavia in the 90

I lived through the economic collapse of Yugoslavia in the 90'. It was mostly induced by sanctions and war but what is going on now here in the US has many parallels. Both have closed economies... So what I can tell you is to start converting cash into assets of any kind. Also since the US is much more diverse than Yugoslavia I would if possible group up with like minded people no matter of ones ideology. The thing that scares me is the fact that the media is working overtime to seed disunion. One thing that has to be avoided at all cost is anarchy which is worst than a war.
