You are spot on about just about everything. I've learned same things when the Soviet Union collapsed.
You know, many preppers have never experienced anything like that in their lives. They read survival fiction books and think that if SHTF happens, they'll be having a great time because they have a year worth of food and 20,000 rounds of ammo.  I've seen well prepared and skilled people drink themselves to death because they were stubborn and couldn't handle the new reality mentally.
Proper mental attitude is everything in survival situations. Stubborn people who are used to doing things their way, who get really bent out of shape if something goes wrong, will have a very hard time surviving. It doesn't matter how much food, guns and ammo they have. Poor mental attitude and inability to adapt quickly, will cut down their chances to survive to nearly zero.
